File extension job information

A file extension is the suffix at the end of file name. They are usually three characters in length but can be anywhere from one to five characters in length. They enable the operating system to know what kind of files they are dealing with so that they can automatically open or edit these files. File extension JOB is associated with Windows Task Scheduler Task Object. Different JOB files may have different icons associated with them making them fairly unique. They are usually found in the \WINDOWS\TASKS folder. The binary JOB files store the task definitions and schedules.
The icons associated with file extension JOB files are stored in the JOB file itself and MSTASK.DLL is tasked with looking for and displaying the assigned icon on encountering a JOB file. This task is assigned regardless of whether the JOB file is located in one’s system, network, or on the internet. Microsoft issued a security fix to MSTSK.DLL to counter an exploit that could run malicious code on one’s system via JOB files. One should therefore install patch MS04-022. The Task Scheduler 2.0 was redesigned and now the user interface is based on Management Console. It was introduced with Windows Vista and included in Windows Server 2008 as well.
